JEVS of Philadelphia has two dozen programs providing skills development, job readiness career and other services.
TD Bank hosted a Scholars Career Day for JEVS Human Services at TD University in Mount Laurel, NJ to provide the "Right Stuff" on how to find a good job.
Members of TD's Talent Acquisition team from across the Bank reviewed resumes, gave interview tips and imparted other important knowledge for the 20 job seekers from JEVS programs attending the event.
JEVS of Philadelphia has two dozen programs providing skills development, job readiness career services and other services. The organization received a 2018 grant for its program with partner Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) focusing on providing students with highly marketable skills.
The SNHU curriculum was created with support from top corporations. Students can progress at their own pace towards associate and bachelor’s degrees from SNHU, while JEVS will provide two locations offering personal coaching, computer access and additional resources to help the students. Participants often have many other family responsibilities, full-time jobs, financial issues, and competing challenges that make it incredibly difficult to earn a degree.
"Never forget where you came from"
The Scholar Career Day kicked off with an introduction to The Ready Commitment and Social Impact from Shelley Sylva, Head of US Social Impact.
"It was a great day for One TD – this career day event allowed us to leverage our Talent Acquisition expertise to benefit students from a nonprofit partner identified through the Ready Challenge competition," Shelley said.
The 2018 Ready Challenge focused on financial security. Ten grants were awarded to organizations offering innovative solutions to the education and training necessary for obtaining higher level employment to people facing socioeconomic barriers to post-secondary education.
"As the Chair of TD's Charitable Foundation, I'm proud of the partnerships we have to help improve communities but I am even prouder of how each of you will make our communities a better place," said Mike Carbone, SVP and Regional President of Metro PA and NJ, told the attendees at the event. "Never forget where you came from and never forget to give back to your community."
