TORONTO, March 27 /CNW/ - Did you know that each year, over 2.5 million Canadian children visit a Children's Miracle Network hospital? In 2007, over 67,000 TD customers and employees showed their support for children's hospitals by making automated monthly donations to the TD Children's Hospital Fund from their TD Canada Trust account. When these donations are combined with TD's corporate donation of more than $1 million and employee fundraising efforts, the TD Children's Hospital Fund is able to make a significant difference in the lives of countless children and their families. "Whether the monthly donation is large or small, by giving to the TD Children's Hospital Fund our customers and employees are making a difference together," said Tim Hockey, Group Head Personal Banking, Co-Chair TD Canada Trust and TD's children's health champion. "We created the Fund in 2002 to make it easier for our customers and employees to support the health of our children and donations have continued to increase every year." Facts about the TD Children's Hospital Fund and Children's Miracle Network: - 100% of every dollar donated is given to the children's hospital nearest to the TD Canada Trust branch where the donation was made ensuring the donations fund local hospital initiatives. - Every year, Children's Miracle Network hospitals in Canada treat more than 2.5 million children suffering from all types of illnesses and serious injuries. - Funds raised are used to buy highly specialized equipment, develop education and prevention programs, and to support medical breakthrough research that saves the lives of countless children. Even though many say it's better to give than receive, TD is treating one lucky customer to the joy of doing both. During the campaign, all new automated monthly donors to the TD Children's Hospital Fund were entered in a draw for a grand prize of a four night stay at an Orlando family theme park followed by a three night cruise for a family of four. Brenda Glancey from Brampton, Ontario was recently selected and will receive the dream family trip valued at over $12,000. The trip includes roundtrip airfare, $1,500 spending money, meals and theme park passes. "While there is only one grand prize winner, all of our TD Children's Hospital Fund donors should feel very good about the part they played in helping their local children's hospital purchase equipment, develop programs and support research. For anyone who has had a sick child, access to the quality healthcare offered by children's hospitals can mean all the difference in the world," added Hockey. TD Community Giving: Making a Difference Together Children's health, literacy and education, and the environment are the three primary areas of focus for TD's community giving. The major flagship programs within these areas are: TD Children's Hospital Fund, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, TD Canadian Children's Book Week, TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership, and the TD Summer Reading Club. In addition, through the support of our customers and employees, TD is involved with a host of national, regional and local programs in support of diversity, arts and culture and other causes. In 2007, TD donated $33 million to more than 2,000 charities and not-for-profit organizations across Canada.
