TORONTO, Jan. 28 /CNW/ - TD Bank Financial Group has been named one of the world's most sustainable companies according to the fifth annual Global 100 ranking. The results were announced today at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. TD is one of only five companies from Canada to make the international list. "It's very rewarding to have our social and environmental efforts recognized on a global scale," said Karen Clarke-Whistler, Chief Environment Officer, TD Bank Financial Group. "For nearly 20 years, our non-profit foundation has being making a significant impact on the environment by donating $47 million to fund 17,500 grassroots environment and wildlife projects across Canada. And over the past few years we've taken further action to build environmental and social considerations into our business strategy." "We are incorporating environmental and social risk into our financing and investment businesses; we've launched products and services that encourage environmentally responsible behaviour; and we're minimizing our operational footprint," continued Clarke-Whistler. "In fact, TD was the first bank in Canada to commit to ensuring its operations are carbon neutral. We believe that the environment and the economy are closely linked, and we will continue to advocate for progressive public policy and to promote clean technology solutions." The Global 100, initiated by Corporate Knights Inc. and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, is a list of publicly-traded companies from around the world encompassing all sectors of the economy that were evaluated according to how effectively they manage environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities, relative to their industry peers.
