MONTREAL, Jan. 11 /CNW Telbec/ - The delegation from Université Laval was crowned champion of the 2010 Jeux du Commerce TD Assurance Meloche Monnex, which took place at Concordia University's John Molson School of Business from January 8 to 10. The interuniversity competition, now in its 22nd year, is one of the largest in the country. This performance earned them an overall mark of 90.7 %.
The competition's theme, "responsible management, sustainable actions", is at the heart of current business issues. For the fourth consecutive year, TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, Canada's leading provider of group home and auto insurance for professionals and alumni, acted as the title sponsor. Henry Blumenthal, Vice President and Chief Underwriter at TD Insurance, was honorary chair of the 22nd edition of the Jeux du Commerce.
"I would like to congratulate the delegates from Université Laval, who set themselves apart during this edition of the Jeux du Commerce through their commitment and talent,'' said Blumenthal. I would also like to acknowledge each of this year's category winners and all participants. Thanks to your enthusiasm and team spirit, I see a bright future for management in this country."
The John Molson School of Business welcomed some 1200 students and volunteers from 13 Francophone and Anglophone universities in eastern Canada (Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick). From January 8 to 10, students competed in academic case studies, a stock simulation, a debate and athletic events. The Jeux du Commerce TD Assurance Meloche Monnex also comprised a community component, which through several activities, encouraged conversation between participants from the different universities.
"In the coming years, sustainable development will take on an increasingly important role in the fields of management and business administration. In fact, businesses have already begun to adopt responsible management practices, but it's up to you, future leaders, to take them to the next level. That is the challenge that awaits you! Of course, the path to sustainable development holds numerous challenges that will allow you to innovate and demonstrate your creativity," adds Blumenthal.
John Molson School of Business Dean Sanjay Sharma noted that this year's theme of "Responsible management, sustainable actions" was particularly meaningful given JMSB's leading position in sustainability-related research and faculty expertise. "We are very proud that Concordia University's John Molson School of Business hosted the 2010 Jeux du Commerce with this spirit and drive towards developing sustainable business practices. This competition remains an important event as we nurture the talent and potential of tomorrow's Canadian business leaders. I also wish to congratulate the winning team for their excellent performance, and to recognize all the participating schools for their remarkable efforts."
