MONTREAL, April 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The year 2010 marks the 150th anniversary of TD in Quebec. To celebrate this special event, TD customers, employees and dignitaries gathered today in two historic branches.
500 Saint-Jacques Street branch celebrates 150 years!
Celebrations kicked off at 500 Saint-Jacques Street where Bernard Dorval, Group Head, Insurance and Global Development, TD Bank Financial Group, unveiled a large mural depicting the history of the branch, which was the first to open in Quebec. Located at 9 Great St. James Street in 1860, this branch underwent numerous renovations and moves until settling in 1961 at the 500 Saint-Jacques Street.
"It's with great pleasure that I present this mural, which shows just how far TD has come in Quebec since 1860," stated Mr. Dorval. "Depicting legendary customer experiences combined with community involvement, it is a testament to the significant role that TD has played in Quebec for the last 150 years," he said.
Mr. Raymond Bachand, Quebec Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for the Montréal region and Mr. Richard Deschamps, Member of the executive committee, responsible for Major Projects, Economic Development, Infrastructure and Roads, City of Montréal spoke at the event.
3590 Saint-Laurent Boulevard branch celebrates 100 years!
After the mural ceremony, Mr. Dorval headed to 3590 Saint-Laurent Boulevard to meet with customers and employees of that TD branch, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, dating back to February 1910. At that time, this branch was open on Saturday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and had a ladies' department, which gave female customers an area where they could do their banking and rest.
"I am proud to be celebrating the 100th anniversary in this TD branch," said Mr. Dorval. "The many years that have transpired since the opening of this branch testify to the solidity of our institution and TD's commitment to being a part of the Quebec financial landscape," he said.
Mr. Jacques Chagnon, Member of the National Assembly for Westmount-Saint-Louis and Mr. Luc Ferrandez, borough Mayor of Plateau-Mont-Royal both spoke during the event.
