  • TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival aims to bring community together with the sweet sounds of summer
  • TD High School Jazz Intensive gives students the opportunity to prepare for a future in music

VANCOUVER, June 23, 2011 /CNW/ - TD will begin the summer festival season with its title sponsorship of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, B.C.'s biggest and most acclaimed music showcase. The Vancouver event is one of several major music festivals across Canada sponsored by TD.

For the last eight years, TD has sponsored Vancouver's signature music festival to the delight of thousands of people in Greater Vancouver. TD is proud to be part of such a well-known event that showcases the talents of homegrown artists and notable musicians from across the country and the world.

"People all over Greater Vancouver look forward to the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival with anticipation," said Jane Russell, Senior Vice President, TD Canada Trust. "The festival is one of the first big signs of summer in Vancouver. People living here or visiting know they are going to enjoy a wide variety of music by artists they can only see here, in venues big and small, to suit every taste. It's a blast."

On the opening weekend of the festival on June 25 and 26, TD is helping to make the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival even more memorable by providing attendees an opportunity to get behind the camera to create a free, personalized TD Flipbook. Participants will be provided with fun photo props they can wear during a two-minute video, which will then be printed out in frames and assembled into a book they can take home.

"A recent TD survey found that 77% of Greater Vancouver residents said that memories of the day with pictures are important when it comes to enjoying a summer festival," said Russell. "We wanted to make sure those memories are captured with the TD Flipbook experience which will give festival goers that unique souvenir they can cherish for years to come."

Those attending the opening weekend event - also known as Gastown Jazz - can find the TD Caravan and mascot on the south side of Water Street in Gastown where TD's Comfort Crew will be creating the flipbooks.

In addition to sponsoring the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, TD is also a proud sponsor of the TD High School Jazz Intensive, a community program that provides opportunities for local students to prepare for a future in music. Aspiring musicians get to taste what it's like to be part of a professional band and perform live at the festival in front of an audience.

Those who want to take in a TD High School Jazz performance can attend the open rehearsal with guest conductor Nicole Mitchell on Saturday, July 2 at the Tom Lee Music Hall, 929 Granville Street from 1-4 p.m. The feature performance will take place on Sunday, July 3 on the Main Stage at David Lam Park from noon to 1 p.m.

For those looking to join in the fun online, TD's new interactive digital media site features exclusive videos from several artists and Twitter discussions (#TDJazzFest) with festival attendees and performers. Join the conversation at tdlivemusic.com and share the link with family and friends.
