Tegan and Sara and TD come together to bring live performance to Canadian music fans
TORONTO, May 26, 2014 /CNW/ - In its eleventh year of supporting music in communities across Canada, TD today continues celebrating the love of music with its first-ever TD Music Café. The pop-up event hosts a one-of-a-kind experience where local Canadian music fans can watch, listen to, and interact with local artists – as well as a triple JUNO award-winning act.
The bank today introduced TD Music Café to launch the 2014 summer music season in Canada, including some of the country's most renowned series of music festivals, Live Nation concert series, and TD Echo Beach concert series. Taking place at Toronto's famous Roy Thomson Hall, TD Music Café's headliner will be iconic indie pop duo, Tegan and Sara.
"We love music and understand its power to bring customers and communities together," said Chris Stamper, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing, TD Bank Group. "Kicking off the summer's music events with Tegan and Sara is an exciting way to demonstrate our commitment to music – and introduce a great season full of musical acts that Canadians can't wait to see."
Alongside Tegan and Sara, the TD Music Café will feature performances by local community artists. For several years, TD has been a significant supporter providing access to music and musical education for youth and this event will benefit MusiCounts. Last year alone, the MusiCounts TD Community Music Grants program, a key initiative ofCanada's music education charity, MusiCounts has provided over $200,000 to local organizations across the country.
"TD is a meaningful contributor to MusiCounts, and its involvement has further established it as an enabler of musical creativity in Canada's artistic community," says Allan Reid, Director of MusiCounts. "We're proud to work with a bank that has such a long-standing reputation as a supporter of cultural initiatives across the country."
The TD Music Café will provide Toronto music fans with a unique outdoor musical experience, transforming Roy Thomson Hall's patio into a café that features a complimentary café bar serving Italian soda, alongside concert style seating. Attendees will receive direct access to the rising Canadian music duo with both an interactive Q+A and an intimate performance, creating a memorable music moment for fans. Fans can join the online conversation on Twitter and Facebook using #TDMusic. Seating is limited.
"We're excited to be playing a unique pop-up show in Toronto for the TD Music Cafe," says Tegan and Sara Quin. "The show will benefit MusiCounts, so we're pleased to have Torontonians join us for a special afternoon that will also benefit a very worthy cause."
