From the National Mall to the First Bank of the United States, TD is supporting two historic places and educational experiences that bring America’s story to life.

Key Points

  • TD donated $1 million to the Trust for the National Mall to help preserve the Lockkeeper’s House, expand educational programs and support long-term maintenance at the oldest structure on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
  • TD made a $25,000 contribution to the First Bank of the United States in Philadelphia, serving as the exclusive financial services sponsor of a reopening reception.
  • Through its support of these two National Park Service sites, TD is helping more visitors connect with the people, ideas and institutions that shaped America’s civic and financial history.

As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, TD is supporting two National Park Service landmarks in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, helping to preserve these historic places and expand the educational experiences available to visitors.

A $1 million donation from TD Bank U.S. is supporting the Trust for the National Mall’s Our Monumental Moment campaign in Washington, D.C., to fund the long-term preservation and educational programming of the historic Lockkeeper’s House.

“At TD, we are honored to support the Trust and its mission to enrich and preserve one of our country's most beloved treasures: the National Mall,” said Leo Salom, President & CEO, TD Bank U.S. “This $1 million contribution reflects our bank's enduring commitment to the U.S. and the communities we serve. As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, we are proud to help care for the oldest building on the National Mall — a centerpiece of early American commerce — and create new opportunities for visitors."

Built around 1837, the Lockkeeper’s House is one of the oldest surviving structures from Washington’s canal era and now serves as a small museum. TD’s support will help expand educational programs, assist the Volunteers in Parks who staff the site, and fund maintenance that will preserve the nearly 200-year-old building for millions of visitors to the most-visited national park.

“TD’s investment in the Lockkeeper’s House is an investment in the stories that connect us to our nation’s past,” said Catherine Townsend, President & CEO of the Trust for the National Mall. “This historic landmark stands at the heart of America’s Front Yard, and thanks to TD’s partnership, we can better preserve and share its rich history with the millions of visitors who come to the National Mall each year."

In Philadelphia, TD contributed $25,000 to the First Bank of the United States and served as the exclusive financial services sponsor of its reopening reception.

Chartered in 1791 under the leadership of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, the First Bank helped establish the foundation of the country’s early financial system. Its historic building, which opened in 1797, reopened to the public in July 2026 following a multiyear restoration.

"The First Bank played a critical role in supporting that growth by enabling our nation to engage in international commerce and paving the way for a resilient banking industry that buttresses our economy to this very day," Leo said. "We are grateful to be able to carry the First Bank's legacy of financial stewardship forward by serving millions of Americans — families, entrepreneurs, small businesses, community organizations, commercial clients and more — every day."

Together, the two initiatives connect past and present by preserving places and helping visitors understand the people, ideas and institutions that defined our young country's history. Through this support, TD is helping communities protect landmarks and make them accessible to future generations.
