The branch with the views: Inside the Bank’s new location in the mountain town of Jasper
• Sep 23, 2025

The views surrounding the TD branch in Jasper, Alta., are — in a word — breathtaking.

Each way you turn, you glimpse mountains so tall and so perfect they look like an artist painted them in the sky with a brush.

The town of Jasper is the commercial centre of Jasper National Park, the largest national park in the Rocky Mountains. The park is known for its dramatic, snow-capped mountains, turquoise lakes, ancient glaciers, and natural hot springs.

In the town of Jasper, the people you meet are long-time locals, recent transplants, seasonal workers, and tourists from close by and far away.

The TD branch serves all of them, said branch manager Krista Gillese.

“It’s a mixture of clients who come through the door,” she said. “Jasper is a tight-knit community. It’s made up of people from all over Canada and people who are new to Canada. It’s really cool to live and serve a small town like that.”

Reopening the TD Jasper branch after 2024 wildfires

The original Jasper branch location was destroyed because of the wildfires that impacted the town in July of 2024.

Clients who needed in-person assistance were directed to the Windermere branch in Edmonton (roughly 365 kilometres away) or the Canmore branch (roughly 310 kilometres away).

The Jasper branch team rallied to secure a new location in collaboration with TD Enterprise Real Estate group, supervise construction to convert the space, and get the interior set up, while continuing to meet the needs of customers, Gillese said.

By November 2024, the new branch had re-opened with ATM services and a few other limited services. By May 2025, cash deposit services had been reinstated.

By July, the conversion of the space was complete, and clients could access the full suite of services at the branch, she said.

"People were really patient with us and that was just fantastic," Gillese said.

In September, the team gathered to celebrate the re-opening of the branch at the new Jasper location.

“Today is a big moment for TD: this was the fastest branch opening in the Bank's history,” said Robert Ghazal, TD Senior Vice President and Alberta Region Head, at the event.

“From the time we lost the original branch building, we secured a new space and re-opened our doors in just over three months. For context, this is a process that usually takes more than a year, often longer.”

Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland said the re-opening of the branch is a reflection of the community’s resilience.

“From the earliest days after the 2024 wildfire, TD made it clear that their commitment to Jasper would not waver,” Ireland said.

“The staff, always the heart of the organization, demonstrated remarkable dedication, serving neighbours with positivity and care even through disruption and difficulty.”
