Hero-How to become an inventor
• Feb 18, 2026

TD files more patents than any other bank in Canada. It's actually one of the top patent filers in the country.

More than 1,000 colleagues from across the Bank, about 1% of the total Bank workforce, have been named on TD patents, including in areas related to digital and mobile banking, cybersecurity, data and analytics, and AI.

This inventive spirit is baked into the Bank's culture. As part of TD Invent, the bank-wide effort to power innovation, colleagues are encouraged to reimagine what banking can be for clients, colleagues, and communities.

John S. Lee, Head of Patents at TD joins host Grant McDonald on The Banking on AI Podcast to talk about how the inventive spirit running throughout the Bank helps contribute to AI innovation.

Lee, an inventor and patent holder himself, talks about the inventor mindset, what it takes to file a patent, and AI innovation at the Bank.
