The concept of a barber school may appear to be simple – teaching students the necessary skills for success in barbering. However, the lessons learned by students at No Grease! Barber School in Charlotte, North Carolina go far beyond the doors of a barbershop.

No Grease! is a multi-million-dollar company and the first Black-owned franchise barbershop in the country and a proud TD customer. But for the twin brothers that founded the company, Damian and Jermaine Johnson, their proudest legacy is the barber school, where more than 3,000 graduates have gone on to start their own professional journeys.

One of the most important lessons that the Johnson brothers emphasize is the importance of building generational wealth for your family through buying real estate.

Kurt Ross, a manager at the barbershop school, noted that classes also includes topics such as how to be an independent contractor and successful business owner.

"It's more about self-development," said Jack Carter, a graduate of the school. "They build people who build communities."
