A trusted presence in New York City for almost 25 years, TD Bank renewed its long-standing commitment to serving the city’s vibrant communities by opening two new locations – one in the Bronx and the other in Brooklyn.
Over the course of two days in April, TD made it clear that customers in these communities would be its first priority. It all comes down to a simple belief at TD – people matter the most. Colleagues in these stores come from the local communities, allowing them to truly understand their customers’ challenges and needs and help them achieve their financial goals.
TD now services more than 1.1 million customers and employs close to 3,000 colleagues in New York City.
"When customers walk into our new stores in the Bronx and Brighton Beach and see the TD shield, they can expect exceptional service and guidance through all our channels, whether engaging in person, interacting digitally, or over the phone," said Allison Robinson, Head of Retail Distribution, TD Bank. "The future is bright and I'm looking forward to serving our customers in meaningful and impactful ways, while meeting the needs of our communities."
Opening day energy in the Bronx
TD Bank opened its newest store in the Bronx at 3433 Jerome Avenue on Friday, April 4. The event included a ribbon cutting ceremony, treats from local chocolatier and TD customer Aigner Chocolates, a food truck and giveaways. Most of the store’s colleagues come from the surrounding Bronx neighborhood and speak Spanish to reflect the local community.
Employees from neighboring businesses joined the celebration, and making those connections are key for all new TD stores, including store manager Jose Sarmiento and team.
"Small businesses are a major part of any community, and this is especially true of our borough neighborhoods," said Ralph Bumbaca, Regional President of the New York Metro, TD Bank. "TD's teams at Jerome Avenue and Brighton Beach are invested in seeing these businesses thrive and contribute to a growing economy."
Grand opening attendees included Gustavo Rivera, New York State Senator; Eric Dinowitz, New York Council Member for District 11; Vanessa Gibson, Borough President; and Calvin Brown, Deputy Commissioner for Neighborhood Development, NYC Department of Small Business Services. They joined TD executives in welcoming the community to the new store.
Creating new memories in Brighton Beach
The next day, TD cut the ribbon on a new store in the Brighton Beach neighborhood in south Brooklyn. The store is located at 722 Brighton Beach Avenue. As TD seeks to deeply connect with the communities it serves, the store manager, Alex Zhorov, speaks Russian, reflecting the language and culture of the local population.
As another sign of our commitment to the community, TD contributed $2,500 to Be Proud, Inc. This Brooklyn nonprofit aims to send a message of peace and acceptance to people of all ages and backgrounds, promoting pride in heritage, and nurturing love and support throughout the community. Raisa Chernina, the Founder and Executive Director of Be Proud Inc., has organized many events that honor Russian-Americans.
The grand opening celebration included an appearance by the Brooklyn Cyclones mascot, a performance from Irina's Dance Academy, a food truck and more family fun. Local and state officials including NY State Assembly Member Michael Novakhov of District 45, NY State Assembly Member Alec Brook-Krasny of District 46, Dynishal Gross, Commissioner of the NYC Dept of Small Business Services, and staff of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce attended.
"New Yorkers know and trust TD Bank, and we're pleased to expand into the Brighton Beach (Brooklyn) and Jerome Avenue (Bronx) neighborhoods," said Alan Nossen, Retail Market President of New York City, TD Bank. "Our teams live and work in these communities, so they know first-hand the opportunities and challenges for individuals, families and businesses there. We look forward to serving everyone, no matter where they are on their financial journey."
