Junior Achievement and TD Bank Financial Group team up to teach students the Economics of Staying in School TORONTO, April 19 /CNW/ - Grade 8 students at Santa Maria Catholic School received a visit from Frank McKenna, Deputy Chair TD Bank Financial Group and TD's Literacy and Education Champion as part of their Junior Achievement lesson on the Economics of Staying in School. "It's a great opportunity to be able to personally impress upon students the importance of continuing their education," says McKenna. "If we can encourage these kids to understand the impact of completing their education, then we have invested our time in a way that will not only make a difference to them, but to their communities as well." Each year, Junior Achievement (JA) arranges for volunteers to go back to school for a day and teach students about the Economics of Staying in School (ESIS). The day-long course is designed to show students how far they can go by staying right where they are. The session encourages grade 8 students to reflect on the advantages of remaining in school to acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed for long-term career success. TD has been actively involved with Junior Achievement for more than ten years and fields employee volunteers each year to teach the course. This year, TD has more than 700 volunteers participating across the country.
