- TD's donation helps to get GTA youth into the business mix -

TORONTO, Dec. 16 /CNW/ - A generous donation from TD Bank Group will support The Remix Project, a local initiative aimed at helping youth from priority neighbourhoods in the Greater Toronto Area by empowering them with the skills and personal networks needed to succeed in creative industries or to further their formal education. The $225,000 donation was presented last night at the sixth Remix Project class graduation in Toronto.

"Our mission is to strengthen the skills, talents and personal interests of Toronto youth to help them find success and define it on their own terms," said Derek "Drex" Jancar, Director of Resources at Remix. "We hope the program will lead to a more diverse and skilled workforce in Toronto's creative and cultural industries. Each successful placement of a graduate makes it easier for other young people to be given a chance."

The Remix Project was created to help level the playing field for young people from disadvantaged, marginalized and under served communities. The Remix Project serves youth trying to enter the creative industries or further their formal education by providing top-notch alternative, creative, educational programs, facilitators and facilities.

With support from organizations including TD, The Remix Project offers participants access to a knowledgeable and supportive staff team, ready to guide youth through their career choices, a range of industry mentors that work one on one with young people to provide guidance and workshops for industry professionals to talk about their experiences and give practical steps to maintaining a successful career.

"We are passionate about creating opportunities for young people and are pleased to support The Remix Project as they continue to provide meaningful economic and educational opportunities for youth in Toronto," said Scott Mullin, VP of Community Relations, TD Bank Group. "Whether it's helping youth earn high school diplomas, applying for post-secondary education scholarships, and internships in their creative fields or mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs to turn an idea into a business, we're thrilled to help Remix economically empower youth in our community."
