Recognizes dual appetite for global exposure and lower-risk equity investments

TORONTO, May 18 /CNW/ - TD Asset Management Inc. (TDAM) has launched a new fund that builds on the success of its Canadian and Global Low Volatility Funds, and simultaneously meets the rising demand for exposure to equities represented by the MSCI All Country World Index (ACWI). The new TD Emerald Low Volatility All World Equity Pooled Fund Trust (PFT) was initially launched to meet the specific needs of a large pension plan which seeded the fund with C$100 million in capital.

This is the third low volatility fund launched by TDAM since the introduction of the TD Emerald Low Volatility Canadian Equity PFT in September 2009 - the first of its kind in Canada. Robin Lacey, Vice Chair, TDAM notes that, "The low volatility strategy has established itself over the past 18 months in the Canadian market, and this risk-focused approach can also be a prudent way to deploy capital in emerging markets which have potential for enhanced returns, but where the risk levels are also potentially high. The low-volatility strategy is an excellent way to mitigate that risk."

TDAM's low volatility funds encompass strategies that build portfolios using risk as a primary selection criterion. "Using an extensively researched, risk-controlled approach to security selection, TDAM's low volatility funds are constructed by overweighting equities that are expected to deliver less volatile returns. The result is highly diversified, lower volatility portfolios with returns expected to be similar to those of their related index benchmarks over a full-market cycle," adds Lacey.

As of May 12, 2011, the TD Emerald Low Volatility Canadian Equity PFT and TD Emerald Low Volatility Global Equity PFT have over C$83 million in assets. With the addition of the new All World Equity mandate, the total of assets under management in low volatility strategies at TDAM is over C$185 million.
