OTTAWA, ON. January 7, 2014 – The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) and TD Bank Group today announced an agreement that will benefit millions of sports fans, concert goers and visitors to Lansdowne Park. TD will be the official naming rights sponsor of the sporting/concert areas, including stadium and arena, to be called TD Place. The agreement also makes TD the official bank of OSEG’s three sports franchises, the Ottawa REDBLACKS (CFL), Ottawa Fury FC (NASL) and the Ottawa 67’s (OHL).

“Through this agreement we are demonstrating our commitment to Ottawa,” said Chris Stamper, SVP, Corporate Marketing, TD Bank Group. “We’re proud to help revitalize an area for the community to live, play and grow, and for the entire city to enjoy. We look forward to providing fans a place where they can support their teams and also share in our Love of Music.”

In addition to acquiring naming rights, TD will open a new state-of-the-art retail branch and install ATMs, offering customers and the community greater convenience to take advantage of all Lansdowne Park has to offer. In support of reducing its environmental footprint the branch will be built to LEED standards.

“This agreement aligns TD with the excitement of our games, the passion of our fan-base and our vision to transform Lansdowne Park into Ottawa’s most popular destination for almost anything that’s worth doing,” said OSEG Chairman Roger Greenberg. “TD Place, with its natural wood surface rising organically from parkland, speaks to Ottawa’s heritage as a city founded by the lumber industry and its future as a city where great things are possible. I’m delighted that TD shares our vision for a vibrant future at Lansdowne Park.”

With a combined arena/stadium seating capacity of 34,000, TD Place will be Ottawa’s largest sports and entertainment venue. TD will have significant branding throughout the complex, including the well-known TD Comfort Zone seating and other amenities to provide a unique fan experience. As part of TD’s commitment to creating opportunities to discover music, the venues will also open their doors for key events such as live concerts and family shows. This agreement will seek to transform Lansdowne Park into a world-class destination – offering shopping, dining, sports, entertainment and parkland for the benefit of all Ottawa-area residents.

Construction of the new Lansdowne Park began in October 2012 after Ottawa City Council approved a comprehensive partnership between OSEG and the City of Ottawa to ensure the project would benefit the community at large for generations to come. “This a great day for sports fans and all residents of our city,” said Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson. “TD is a top Canadian brand and its alignment with OSEG is a vote of confidence in the long-term success of the Lansdowne Partnership Plan and the vibrancy of the City of Ottawa. OSEG has partnered with a rock-solid Canadian success story.”

To commemorate and ensure the memory of Frank Clair, the legendary CFL coach in whose memory the stadium at Lansdowne Park was previously named, a monument will be erected in his honour. Design concepts for the monument will be developed in collaboration with Mr. Clair’s daughter Robin. “I’m delighted that OSEG and TD respect the historical significance of Lansdowne Park and my father’s contribution to writing it through his football legacy,"said Robin Clair Mason. Mr. Clair served as Head Coach of Ottawa’s CFL team (Ottawa Rough Riders) from 1956–1969 and his teams won three Grey Cup Championships. After he retired from coaching Mr. Clair was appointed the team’s General Manager for nine seasons and he led them to two more Grey Cup championships.
