Temporary pilot will reserve first opening hour in branches for populations with greater health risk, to assist with urgent in-person banking needs only
TORONTO, March 25, 2020 /CNW/ - To help keep customers, colleagues and communities safe, TD encourages Canadians to bank digitally and avoid coming into branches. For urgent matters that require in-person assistance, TD will dedicate the first opening hour to serve seniors, those who need extra assistance and populations with greater health risk.
"The TD brand was built on our commitment to convenient banking, legendary experiences and advice that increases financial confidence. However, in these unprecedented times, for the first time in our history, we must ask our customers to avoid coming in – for their protection and for the safety of our colleagues and communities," said Andrew Pilkington, EVP Branch Banking.
"When this unfortunate situation is over, we will warmly welcome our customers back through our doors to serve and advise them in person, but for now, please bank with us online, on your mobile device, or through an ATM. It is critical that Canadians stay home as much as possible. We continue to see high traffic in our branches for matters that are not urgent, or can be done digitally or at an ATM, such as manual updates on Passbooks, confirming transactions, making cash withdrawals or exchanging foreign currency," said Pilkington.
Over the past week, TD has temporarily curtailed its hours of operation and number of branches open, in order to help curb the spread of coronavirus. Information on closures, hours and other aspects of our response is available here: www.td.com/covid19.
"If you must visit a branch in the coming days for an urgent matter, please be aware that those at higher health risk will have exclusive access for the first hour of the day," said Pilkington.
