Let's be honest, modern life can be "noisy."

For some people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), an overload of sights, sounds, and activity can make focusing more challenging. ADHD affects an estimated 1.8 million Canadians, according to the Centre for ADHD Awareness, Canada.

Many individuals with ADHD experience the world in dynamic and fast-paced ways, processing multiple stimuli at once. For some, managing sensory input—both internal and external—can support focus and create a more comfortable environment.

In 2023, TD colleagues designed and developed the TD Accessibility Adapter, through the TD Invent approach, to support colleagues in customizing their online visual accessibility preferences.

One feature, the Reading Guide, helps reduce visual distractions by dimming most of the screen and highlighting a single transparent strip. This can help some users track and read digital text one line at a time.

"Created to address the fact that only 3% of internet content is accessible, the TD Accessibility Adapter is a great demonstration of innovating with purpose and reflective of our brand belief that people matter most," said Tyrrell Schmidt, Chief Marketing Officer, TD Bank Group.

"In this case, we created an installation at Union Station, one of the busiest areas in all of Toronto, to build awareness around how the TD Accessibility Adapter tool can help make it easier to focus online."
