Earlier this year, the TD Stories team traveled to Ottawa to take a rare, behind-the-scenes tour of the Royal Canadian Mint. Inside its high-security facility, we witnessed the complex process of transforming raw silver into the 2 oz Bull and Bear Silver Coin (2025), an investment piece available through TD Precious Metals.

A mint is where metal is carefully crafted into currency, bullion, and collector’s items, but the Royal Canadian Mint is more than just a production facility — it’s a piece of history. Established in 1908, the Mint's Ottawa facility looks more like a castle than a modern factory with its stone facade, arched windows, and fortress-like presence — all it needs is a moat to complete the look. On the inside, however, it’s a different story.

Beneath floors of offices and conference rooms are loud, complex machinery, countless assembly lines, and teams of skilled workers. At every turn, giant containers of precious metal are waiting to be processed. For a newcomer, the experience is exciting— like entering a secret, underground layer.

Take a look for yourself and see what happens at the Royal Canadian Mint.
