AI work 2

Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer just the future - it’s part of our present and is being adapted into our daily lives at a rapid pace.

From back to school to AI at work and on your phone, the new technology is changing the very fabric of how we live day-to-day.

At TD Bank, we recognize that understanding how people perceive and use AI is critical for fostering trust, enabling innovation, and shaping the future of banking. That’s why we partnered with Ipsos to survey 2,500 adults across the U.S., resulting in the first-ever TD AI Insights Report.

The report reveals how Americans are adapting to AI, particularly in the workplace, where optimism and uncertainty often go hand-in-hand. Here's what was uncovered.

AI at work: A support system, not a replacement

Americans are embracing technology in their professional lives. According to the report, a striking 89% of people say they’re comfortable using new technologies, yet AI adoption at work remains a mixed bag.

While one-third (35%) of Americans use AI tools at least once a week, another third say they’ve never used AI - either through their employer or on their own.

The takeaway: People are open to using AI, but awareness and training are key to adoption.

As Ted Paris, Head of Analytics, Intelligence & AI at TD Bank told us, "We're committed to investing in upskilling our colleagues at TD. With AI in particular, the information is so new and can change quickly. It's important to ensure our colleagues are equipped with the knowledge they need."

Ted continued, "We launched GenAI Executive Education this year, with a focus on empowering leaders across the Bank to utilize AI to help drive innovation, navigate transformation, and enhance business decision-making. Bringing our executives together is the first step in building awareness and increasing the adoption of AI in our workplace. We're looking to expand this training beyond our executives and offer other opportunities to upskill our colleagues and demonstrate the power of this transformative tool."

The numbers show that employees don’t want AI to replace them, they want it to empower them.

According to Sanj Rana, Head of Talent at TD Bank, "The data makes it clear: organizations need to do more to help their workforce understand how roles and work are evolving. In many cases, jobs aren't disappearing – they're being enhanced and elevated through the power of AI. Employees also need to remain curious to embrace the change of AI and explore the possibilities in the way they work."

Sanj added, "Building this awareness empowers leaders to identify high-value work, redeploy capacity more strategically, and provide employees with clear pathways for upskilling. Ultimately, it strengthens the employee value proposition and paves the way for employees to broaden their experiences."

Whether it’s creating content, analyzing data, or automating repetitive tasks, AI is proving to be a valuable sidekick in the workplace.

How AI Is being used

AI is also being used for summarizing meetings, creating visuals or marketing materials, enhancing customer service, and even modeling outcomes.

While usage is growing, there’s room to grow even more.

With only 21% of Americans currently using AI to support job-seeking activities like resume writing, the opportunity is clear: people need more guidance on how AI can assist in career advancement, not just day-to-day tasks.

Younger generations are already ahead of the curve, with 38% of Gen Z and 32% of Millennials report using AI for job applications, compared to just 10% of Boomers.

As these trends continue, companies and educators have a chance to lead the way in upskilling future workforces.
