Lesson was a hit with students, who went home with TD savings banks
A lucky group of fifth graders in Riviera Beach, Florida, learned why it's important to start saving money early in life from one of TD Bank's finest.
Tamara Pratt, a TD Bank store manager in North Palm Beach, Florida, started teaching financial literacy classes focused on savings, in partnership with the Palm Beach County School District and the Teach Children to Save Program. Recently, fifth grade students at Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School in Riviera Beach, received the invaluable lessons from Tamara.
At the end of class, students received TD savings banks to get them started in their financial journey. The smiles on their faces during the class said it all, it was a big hit!
Tamara believes her course will help give a necessary foundation for a healthy financial future.
"It's important to teach them about the value of money and how to save early," she says. "My hope is when it's time for the students to graduate from school they understand how to set a savings goal and how to create a savings plan to reach their goal."
Across TD's footprint, volunteers like Tamara are making a difference in the lives of students by acting as a TD Bank Financial Education Instructor. TD volunteer instructors have access to training, facilitator guides, lesson plans, promotional materials and ongoing support to empower them to lead educational sessions in their communities.
